She went a little too deep this time
Lightening quick — it was over
Now her nervous hands pull
the cuffs of an oversized sweater
as she reveals the story
and tries to conceal the storm’s damage.
She went a little too deep this time —
never heard the familiar thunder
or saw angry clouds forming
or felt depression’s dark wind
as the doctor stitched her wrist
and red pain ran down her arm.
“Too deep this time,”
she tells the circle, “Too deep.”
Now the fury is gone
And the lightening is gone
only the sadness remains
like summer rain.
